ASHLEY HUGILL and Mick Borg will square off in a second round showdown at the York Masters snooker tournament.

That clash, along with Paul Holmes against Lee Taylor and Glen Mountain versus Roland Cox, is among the highlights of the draw for the last 16 of the competition, which aims to find the best player in York.

The opening round concluded with Paul Holmes firing in the highest break of the tournament so far, an effort of 55, as he beat Adam Scaife 3-0.

After a tight first frame which the Acomb cueman won 49-44, Holmes then stepped up a gear in the second and third frames.

Scaife has still advanced in to the second round after beating Nick Marchant in his opening match.

Jordan Worobec was the last man into the hat after beating Justin Morris 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

Morris started the better and comfortably won the opening frame. But Worobec levelled the match with a break of 42.

Both players were in full flow and Morris responded with a 39 to move 2-1 ahead.

Worobec levelled thanks to an effort of 27 but Morris looked like winning the decider only to miss a black off the spot when trying to move a red away from the cushion.

His opponent made a terrific clearance on the colours to take the frame 56-53.
