SELBY pool player Paul Sullivan, 17 times Selby singles champion, is now a world champion.

Sullivan was the only Yorkshireman in the England team which won the World Pool Championship in a week-long tournament at Bridlington last week.

Playing against 11 other countries, England clinched the title when overcoming defending champions Scotland in the final.

Sullivan, who holds four Guinness world records for his potting skills, said: “It’s a great honour to represent your country and a bigger honour to be crowned world champions.”

The latest honour for Sullivan, who won 24 games out of the 30 that he played at Bridlington, comes after his success as a member of the England team that won the European championship in November last year.

He is now looking forward to the European competition later this year in the Isle of Man.

Meanwhile, former world eight-ball masters pool champion Chris Melling is coming to Selby.

Melling will be putting on a trick-shot show at the Premier Club, in Flaxley Road, on Friday, April, 24, at 8pm, while also attempting to beat his own speed pool record.

Tickets cost £5 in advance and include a buffet.

The first 50 ticket holders will also play against Melling on the night and there will be a trophy for the best player.

Melling, who holds more than 20 titles at nine-ball pool, was the first person to be professional at snooker and nine-ball at the same time.
