NORTH Yorkshire is the pride of world kick-boxing.
After being picked to represent Great Britain at the World Kick-Boxing Council championships in Spain, Andy Wilby, head instructor at the York Muay Thai Way of Life Club, and Tony Dias, who runs the United Martial Arts College in Norton, near Malton, both won world titles.
Wilby won the 48 years of age and above crown at under 85 kilogrammes and Dias the 44 and above under-77k title.
There was further success. Jamie Matthews bagged silver and bronze medals at 48 and above under-80k, with Mike Clarke reaching the quartter-finals of the 35 and 90k and above.
Said Wilby: “It was a brilliant event. All the lads fought so well and we’d all like to thank our supporteers and sponsors.”
