A former professional rugby league player has turned his sporting skills to amateur cage fighting.
Jon Broadhurst, who played for Castleford Tigers, started training for his new sport a year ago. He has won two bouts in the heavyweight division.
The first was a straight fight which he won with take downs and body strikes, while the second a grapple bout which he won easily.
Broadhurst, 29, a member of mixed martial arts, is a former Selby Warriors RL player and now coaches the Under-9s.
His father was a martial arts black belt and another family member, Alan Richardson, was a British boxing champion.
Broadhurst’s nine-year-old son George hopes to follow in the family tradition.
Instructor Craig Lawrence said: “Jon will go far in the heavyweight division and is a good prospect for the future.”
Broadhurst’s next bout is at Hull’s Gemtec Arena on February 21.
