MARTIAL arts ace Gary Watkinson has set himself a daunting target from scratch.
The York based fighter, who is an expert trainer in Maui Thai boxing, aims to have a multi-martial arts gym in York up and running within a month.
Work has now been started by Watkinson at a shell of a building next door to the current York Amateur Boxing Club premises in Layerthorpe. And by the end of February he is determined the new Multi-Martial Arts Academy will be in operation.
Said Watkinson, pictured: “The gym will be a melting-pot of different disciplines of self-defence and hopefully will feature classes for adults and youngsters.”
He has already earmarked a pilot scheme for Mini-Masters for children aged between seven and 12 and Master Masters for youngsters between the ages of 13 to 16.
The new Academy will be run as a business by Watkinson, but will also have fund-raising assistance from the Off The Hook/York Boxing Club project next door to the proposed new martial arts centre.
If anyone can help with the conversion work or would like to get involved they can phone Watkinson on 07798 765259.
