EAST Yorkshire Thai boxer Danny Harrison-Little is counting down to the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations’ K1 Kick Boxing World Championships in Brazil next month – as one of a seven-strong York contingent heading to South America.

The 23-year-old, of Barmby Moor, will line up as part of the Great Britain team as the reigning British Mauy Thai welterweight Chang Cup champion.

Harrison-Little has been picked to fight in the 67-kilogramme division for the six-strong Team GB.

The championships in Sao Paulo start on October 1, with the finals on October 5.

Harrison-Little, who fights out of Legions Gym in York, said: “This is both a fantastic opportunity plus a great honour to be chosen to represent Great Britain.

“I have been training solidly for the past six weeks and I am hoping I can bring home a gold medal.”

He will then fight in Bournemouth on November 23 for the coveted S1 British title.

If he wins, he will be invited to fight in Thailand next January in an event that plays part of the King of Thailand’s birthday celebrations.

Harrison-Little has only recently joined the Legions gym, who supply three other members of the Great Britain team in York-based duo Wes Nunns and Liam Goodwin and Selby’s Jordan Carr.

Legions co-founder Dave Phillips is also one of the coaches alongside United Masters gym founder Gaz Watkinson, while Phil Wetten, who sponsors kick-boxing in the city, is also off to Brazil as part of the WAKO GB committee.

Said Phillips: “It’s the first time we have had a GB team for the K1 Championships, so it’s just fantastic that so many of us from York are part of that team.

“We are all so excited about going to Brazil and representing Britain, and we will be giving our all to try to bring success back with us.”
