Darts: Temple in slick form to finish off Painter

WHITWELL-ON-THE-HILL’S Terry Temple dumped Premier League Darts star Kevin Painter out of a Players Championship event at Birmingham.

Temple, above, defeated world number 11 Painter 6-5 in a first round contest but then went down 6-2 to an in-form Peter Hudson in his next match.

In the second Players Championship event, Temple reached the last 32 after beating top-32 player Peter Wright (6-1) and Scott Coleman (6-0).

Former BDO world champion Steve Beaton halted Temple’s progress with a narrow 6-5 victory.

Temple’s bid to make the latest European Tour event in Dusseldorf, though, failed after a 6-1 defeat to Michael Mansell.

Acomb arrows ace Chris Thompson endured two first-round exits at Birmingham against Nick Fulwell (6-3) and world number four Gary Anderson (6-1).

Temple has now risen to 69 in the PDC rankings just five places behind Thompson.
