Darts: Best of Britton swings it for hosts Five Lions

MICHELLE BRITTON was in spectacular form in the opening game of the new York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League season.

Britton, pictured, gamed in 14 darts, including a 180, a 140 and a two-dart ton checkout, as Five Lions proved too strong for visitors Flag.

Cueball ‘B’ beat their ‘A’ team colleagues in a hard-fought encounter, despite Faye Hawksby hitting two 140s for the ‘A’ ranks.

Reigning division one champions Walnut Tree beat Clifton, whose only successes were Lynn Richford (100, 100) and Karen Hodgson (140). Sophie Simpson top-scored for Tree.

Doreen Johnstone closed 104, with 18, treble 18, double 16, in the final pairs with Slipper colleague Karen Smith, but a 22-dart game from Burnholme’s Caroline Whittaker and a 68 closure from Kat Liddle-Howden saw the club side home 5-4.

In division two, Rose Gray checked out on 68 in the pairs with Lisa Gatenby to seal victory for Acomb ‘A’ over visitors Edinburgh Arms.

Denise Fowler starred for Castle Howard Ox ‘A’ as they beat Dick Turpin with a clean sweep in the pairs.

Acomb ‘B’ skipper Mary Thomas fired an 82 outshot in the pairs with Claire Tebbutt in a resounding victory over Severus ‘A’, whose stars were Davina Shannon, Carol Robson and Sue Clark.

Final pair Margaret Haley and Barbara Russell helped Leeman ‘B’ snatch a win over Bootham Club.

Severus ‘B’ reeled off the first five legs against Shepherd ‘B’ to seal a win in division three, with Sarah Thompson sealing the points.

Maggie Bedingham and Tracey Scurr earned Shepherd ‘A’ a last-gasp win at Woolpack – a feat matched by Jubilee’s Kelly Bailey and Brenda Dawe against Beeswing, who had Jodie Dowson closing 63.

Newcomers Shoulder led 4-2 against Leeman ‘A’, but the visitors hit back to win with Christina Waddington and Janet Nelson securing match points.

Dawn Barker and Jean Wright ensured Burton WMC edged out Sun.
