Darts: Showdown at the Clarence
10:55am Tuesday 1st May 2012 in Darts
FIVE Lions’ Michelle Britton and Cueball’s Tracey Farmeary will contest the York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League individual final at the Clarence Working Men’s Club tonight.
Britton won through with a 2-0 win over Farmeary’s snooker club colleague Lynne Clapham, who struggled in the first leg as the Lions captain closed on tops.
With the players neck and neck in the second leg after a 156 from Clapham, Britton fired in a 125 to leave 66.
However, 24 darts later, she checked double one after both players had missed their doubles.
Tramway’s Jo Hodges fell by the same scoreline to Farmeary.
Britton is also involved in the pairs and triples finals.
In the pairs with Dawn Exton, a 52 close secured the first leg against Burnholme duo Becky Thompson and Caroline Whittaker.
The Lions pair saw steady scoring help them amass a good lead before finishing jitters kicked in.
Whittaker hit 111 to give Thompson a chance, but the wire intervened and Lions secured victory again on double one.
The other finalists are the Tramways captain Sue Lowery and Roz Kerr, who won through in a tight contest against Walnut Tree’s Di Moreland and Babs Harrison.
Moreland closed 50, but in the second leg the club side got on the right track.
It was neck and neck until Kerr (81), then Lowery (100), Kerr (83) and a 48 check from Lowery set up a deciding game.
Kerr and Moreland traded tons before Lowery closed on five.
Britton and Exton were joined by Lynn Thompson in the triples where they met Hodges, Kerr and Ruth Norman.
Exton closed on double one, then Britton sealed victory with a double seven.
Farmeary and Clapham were joined by competition secretary Tina Platt against Walnut’s Moreland, Sandra Bruce and Pat Cairns.
A double eight finish from Platt snatched the first leg in a close contest. Bruce closed double one after both teams had chances.
In the third and deciding leg Bruce set the tone with a ton and it was a close call all the way down until Platt closed double ten.
