Darts: Walnut Tree avoid slip-up after Slipper’s fast start

Walnut Tree showed exactly why they are York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League division one champions with a 9-2 win at Slipper.

Slipper’s Ann Parkyn and captain Doreen Johnstone won the first two legs, but Sandra Bruce started a match-winning run and Slipper did not get another point.

Second-placed Tramways won by the same margin, despite Alison Walker’s efforts for Clifton.

Carol Sykes-Waller was a double ton scorer.

Third-placed Lions had Shona Benson and Dawn Exton gaming in 20 darts to level at 4-4 with Flag.

Mother and daughter Muriel and Michelle Britton secured the match points for Lions.

Natalie Farmeary, with a 68 checkout, gave Cueball ‘B’ a start against Bootham Club.

Jackie Clemit levelled before the snooker club side upped the tempo, Gina Whittaker sealing victory. Mother and daughter Jane and Kate Barnes doubled Bootham’s tally, but it was all they could manage.

Acomb ‘B’ left Crystal Palace with a 7-2 win to secure second place in division two.

Champions Cueball ’A’ were taken to the wire at Severus ‘A’, who recovered from a 3-0 deficit.

Some excellent scoring from Faye Hawksby (2x100) and Linda Welch (101) gave the snooker club side victory by the meanest margin.

Rose Gray secured Acomb ‘A’ match points against visitors Beeswing, whose Vicky Sellers was the only player to trouble the scorers in the singles. ’Wing added two more points to their tally in the pairs.

Tracy Green sealed Ox ‘B’s win at Leeman ‘B’ as Sharon Rishworth was the home team’s lone singles success. Kayleigh Whitehead was Ox’s top scorer.

In division three, with everything depending on the final game, leaders Edinburgh had captain Chris Lamb closing 109 in a 21-dart pairs leg with Donna Lynes to give them a 4-3 advantage at Jubilee.

But Tracey Yeomans and Brenda Dawe set up a decider, which saw colleagues Vicki Capes and Julie Oliver snatch victory.

That left second-placed Turpin just needing a win, but Shepherd ‘A’ had other ideas. Their final pairing of Emma Barker and Maggie Beddingham secured a victory which left Turpin one point adrift of Edinburgh.

Leeman ‘A’ were thwarted by Woolpack’s Vicky McClaren as they strove for a clean sweep in the singles. Kath Powell and Julia McKie doubled Pack’s scores as Leeman ran out 7-2 victors.

Dot Sellars and Wendy Atkin secured a 5-4 win for Severus ‘B’ at Swan in a see-saw match. Sun rose to the occasion as Shepherd ‘B’ taking home a 7-2 win.

• There are still tickets left for the finals night at Clarence WMC on May 1.
