Darts: Walnut crack it with ladies title glory

WALNUT Tree secured their first York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League division one title with a match to spare after beating visitors Cueball ‘B’.

The Heworth side were in rampant form as they beat Cueball 9-2, with Sophie Simpson and Sandra Winters leading the attack.

Runners-up Tramways were involved in a close-fought tie at Flag & Whistle, whose Toni Smallwood gamed in 22 darts with the help of a 180.

Tramways’ Jo Hodges then fired a maximum in the pairs with Ruth Norman, and her side secured a 7-4 win.

Slipper captain Doreen Johnstone led from the front with a 24-dart leg, while Vicky Middleton hit 123 and 118, but Clifton still ran out 9-2 victors.

Castle Howard Ox ‘A’ won by the same scoreline against Bootham Club, while Burnholme’s Kate Liddle Howden’s win denied Five Lions a clean sweep.

Cueball ‘A’ lost 7-4 at home to Crystal Palace but that was enough to secure the division two title.

Edinburgh Arms still lead the way in division two after an 8-3 win over Shepherd ‘B’, but Dick Turpin trail by only a point.
