Darts: Dick Turpin close in on division three peak

CARLA Cuthbert gamed in 22 darts as second-placed Dick Turpin closed the gap on York John Smith’s Ladies League division three leaders Edinburgh.

Cuthbert’s success came in a 7-2 victory against visitors Severus ‘B’.

Edinburgh slipped up again at Shepherd ‘A’, whose final pairing of Sarah Higgins and Chris Peebles snatched a close-fought win.

Jubilee recovered after Debbie Witts’ win gave visitors Leeman ‘A’ a 4-2 advantage going into the pairs.

However, the home team found their mark, Heather Bulmer and Vicki Capes levelling the tie after colleagues Brenda Dawe and Julie Oliver had narrowed the gap.

Then Laura Lancaster and Louise Warren sealed victory.

Shepherd ‘B’ were prevented from a clean sweep in the singles by Swan’s Gill Minshaw. Janet Clegg and Christine Waddington doubled their tally as Shep won 7-2.

Tramways closed the gap on division one top of the tree team Walnut. The club side cleared the track with an 11-0 win over visitors Burnholme, whose Caroline Whittaker hit the tons.

Tree came home from Ox ‘A’ with a 9-2 victory, Sophie Simpson and Diane Moreland starring.

Cueball ‘B’ captain Tracey Farmeary combined with Lynne Clapham to secure a hard-fought victory against visitors Slipper.

Flag’s Jo West hit 174 and 119 to inspire them to a 7-2 win over visitors Clifton, whose Michelle Brierley won a lone hand pairs.

In division two, Acomb ‘A’s Lisa Gatenby gamed in 23 darts, but Leeman ‘B’ cleaned up in the pairs for a 7-2 result.

With leaders Cueball ‘A’ having a free week, second-placed Acomb ‘B’ closed the gap beating Burton Club 7-2.
