Darts: Flag flying high thanks to Smallwood and Dobson
10:36am Tuesday 27th March 2012 in Darts
FLAG’s Toni Smallwood gamed in 18 darts with a bull finish and colleague Jane Dobson hit the tons as they left York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League rivals Burnholme trailing in their wake.
Jo Hodges was also in tremendous form for Tramways in their pursuit of division one honours.
Hodges included a maximum as the second-placed team gained ground on top team Walnut.
Tramways were denied a clean sweep by Bootham club’s Jackie Calpin.
Leaders Walnut showed their finishing prowess to silence Lions’ roar by a 6-3 margin.
Slipper captain Doreen Johnstone joined forces with Vicky Middleton to seal a close-fought victory over visitors Ox ‘A’.
Cueball ‘B’ were gifted the points as Clifton could not field a team.
Division two champions-elect Cueball ‘A’ raced into a 3-0 lead through Joan Hunter, Sue Smith and Faye Hawksby before Mary Thomas and Amanda Harris narrowed the gap. A total clearance in the pairs saw the snooker club win 7-2.
Palace captain Yvette Shepherd was inspirational as they had victory in the bag before the pairs at Beeswing, whose Sharon Mountain starred.
Burton made home advantage count in a 6-3 victory against Leeman ‘B’.
Acomb ‘A’s Sammy Endersby hit 140 and 118 in her singles, but the double evaded her and most of her team, who suffered at the hands of Severus ‘A’.
Swan had Christine Waddington and Anna Frost sealing victory by the meanest margin at division three leaders Edinburgh.
Michelle Kelly closed a two-dart 64 as Jubilee were tied 3-3 at Severus ‘B’. Jan Stuart and Wendy Atkin edged the hosts in front before Laura Lancaster and Julie Oliver, then final pairing Angela Lancaster and Heather Bulmer snatched victory.
Emma Barker won the opener for Shepherd ‘A’ at Leeman ‘A’, whose Janet Nelson levelled.
This sequence went on through the game and, in the decider, the club side’s Tracey Scurr and Sarah Higgins snatched victory.
• Registration forms should be in by March 29.
