Darts: Barnstorming Bruce bruises Bootham foes

SANDRA Bruce hit a maximum in her singles win before teaming up with Walnut Tree team-mate Clair Cooper to secure victory at York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League division one opponents Bootham Club.

Tramways’ Roz Kerr also hit a 180 and two tons as they proved too strong for visitors Ox ‘A’, whose Danni Laycock hit the big scores.

Burnholme Club’s Marj Pearson led from the front with three ton-plus scores to rout Slipper 7-2.

Natalie Farmeary was also a triple-ton scorer as Cueball ‘B’ took a 4-2 advantage into the pairs at Flag, who narrowed the gap through Toni Smallwood and Jean West before Sharon Neads and Kay Snowdon levelled.

Farmeary was joined by Lynne Clapham in the decider where they won a close victory.

Lions, well led by Michelle Britton, were in command in the singles as they beat Clifton 7-2.

Division two front-runners Cueball ‘A’ had Faye Hawksby leading the way as they dispatched visitors Acomb ‘A’, whose Rose Gray hit 6-3.

Burton WMC won by the same margin, captain Linda Embleton closing two-dart 56 at Crystal Palace.

Beeswing recovered from a 4-3 deficit at Ox ‘B’. Jodie Dowson and Sue Gillon levelled before Vicky Sellers combined with ’Wing captain Julie Judson to seal victory.

Mary Thomas (140, 134) and Claire Tebbutt starred for Acomb ‘A’, Tebbutt joining Viv Netherwood to snatch victory by the meannest margin against Leeman ‘B’, whose Shelagh Kenny excelled.

In division three, Shepherd ‘B’ broke their duck, winning all the pairs for a resounding win at Leeman ‘A’. Charlotte Witts top-scored for the club side.

Woolpack captain Doreen England and Chris Patterson won to set up a decider at Jubilee, whose Angela Lancaster and Tracey Yeomans joined forces to secure match points.

Carol Cuthbert and Pam Beilby were Turpin’s match-winners against visitors Edinburgh Arms.

Dot Sellars and Jan Stuart were also last-gasp winners for Severus ‘B’, whose Anne Meek and Sarah Thompson had levelled at 4-4 after Sun had held a 4-3 advantage.
