ACOMB arrows ace Chris Thompson was unfortunate to run into the in-form Justin Pipe twice in the final Players Championship events at Wigan.
Thompson reached the third round of both competitions, only to lose 6-3 and 6-5 to number one seed Pipe, who went on to reach his sixth PDC final in two months before being beaten by Phil Taylor.
He defeated Jon Archer (6-0) and Roland Scholten (6-3) before succumbing to Pipe in the first tournament. He then disposed of James Richardson (6-4) and Mike Nott (6-0) only to bow out to Pipe again.
Whitwell-on-the-Hill’s Terry Temple reached the same last 32 stage twice at Wigan, where he suffered a pair of defeats against Dave Chisnall.
Rawcliffe’s Martyn Turner lost first round matches against Magnus Caris (6-2) and Terry Jenkins (6-3).
