Darts: Champion Toni Smallwood off to flier in new team

TONI Smallwood showed why she was crowned York John Smith’s Ladies League champion gaming in 20 darts, which included two tons, as her new team Flag secured a 5-4 win at Ox ‘A’.

Last pairing Sharon Neads and Dot Jackson were the match winners.

Dawn Scott closed 64 to give Burnholme a 4-2 advantage entering the pairs at Cueball ‘B’ where Lynn Clapham and Tina Platt narrowed the gap before Marj Pearson and Lynne Willstrop sealed victory for the visitors.

Newcomers Clifton gave a good account of themselves only losing to visitors Walnut Tree by the closest margin, Clair Cooper and Sophie Simpson combining to seal victory for Tree.

Jackie Clemit and Jane Barnes combined to seal victory for Bootham Cons Club at Slipper, whose Doreen Johnstone and Elaine Metcalfe top scored.

Last season’s champions Tramways had final pairing Judy Hall and Jan Wilberham snatching a last game win against visitors Lions, whose Anne Bass hit the tons.

In division two, Cueball ‘A’ were prevented from a full house in the singles by Leeman ‘B’s Shelagh Kenny, Sharon Mountain closed 60.

Beeswing attained a full house in the singles before Burton WMC awoke to take the remaining games.

Ox ‘B’ found themselves 0-3 adrift at Acomb ‘A’ whose Kate Rankeillor, Michelle Murray and Lisa Gatenby shone.

However, Janice Green started a landslide as Ox were successful in the remaining legs for a 6-3 win.

Severus ‘B’ posted a resounding win at Shepherd ‘B’ in division three. Severus had victory sewn up within the singles as Alison Buckley was the home team’s lone single success.

Jan Netherwood and Edinburgh captain Chris Lamb secured a hard-fought win against visitors Sun.

Shepherd ‘A’ beat hosts Woolpack 6-3, Chris Peebles and Anne Allison top scoring.

Teams should note that signing-on sheets must be in or points will be lost.
