ACOMB arrows ace Chris Thompson knocked out former world champion Jelle Klaasen on his way to the last 32 of the Haarlem Players Championship in Holland.
Fellow Minsterman Martyn Turner also reached the third round stage before making his exit from the same competition.
Thompson beat Erwin Renkema (6-1) and Rudiger Lohse (6-0) before disposing of 2006 BDO champion Klaasen 6-5.
The St Paul’s player then went out by the same scoreline to world number 44 Steve Maish.
Turner defeated Erwin Renkema (6-1), Maik de Wit (6-2) and Mario Masurka (6-5) before bowing out to Bernd Roith (6-3).
In the Dutch Darts Trophy Players Championship, held the previous day, Thompson suffered a 6-1 first round defeat to Steve Farmer while Turner went out at the same stage and by the same score against three-time world champion John Part.
Thompson now lies six places and £1,200 in prize money behind Klaasen, who occupies the final qualifying place for next month’s World Matchplay Championship going into the final three qualifiers in Las Vegas.
