MATURITY is what ‘Lightning’ Lee Stewart will need to show when he gets into the ring for his second fight tomorrow.
The 21-year-old, York’s newest boxing professional, is up against Nuneaton journeyman Kristian Laight at the Barnsley Metrodome in a lightweight contest over four three-minute rounds.
Laight is participating in his 114th fight and, having lost 101 of those and boasting just six victories and six draws, he is not expected to be celebrating a shock win.
But with Stewart needing time in the ring following his six-round points victory over Dan Carr at York’s Energise Centre in May, the fighter’s coach Glenn Banks is looking for his charge to show progression against a “tough” opponent.
“He is looking forward to the contest following an eight-week training camp,” Banks said. “I am delighted with the support he is receiving. He has sold 150 tickets and two coaches are running, from the Clifton Hotel and the Ainsty.
“I am looking for him to use his skills and put on a more mature performance.
“He will be looking to use the full four rounds and, with him being a 21-year-old prospect, I don’t want to put him in to a 50-50 fight. I want to give him a good apprenticeship.”
Spaces are still available on the coaches which run from the Clifton Hotel at 5.30pm and the Ainsty 15 minutes later. To book a place, and for ticket details, contact Banks on 07842 464466.
