A SUNDAY best performance can seal a second pro victory for Heworth fighter Matt Doyle, writes Stuart Martel.

The 24-year-old steps into the ring with Afghanistan-born Monsoor Walli at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium tomorrow.

Normally a welterweight Doyle will meet his Sheffield-based 23-year-old foe at light-middleweight.

“I am very confident,” he said. “Training has gone well and it’s all about taking my gym work into the ring.

“I have put on a few pounds to fight at light-middleweight.

“Walli has had two fights – one win and one loss. He won his last fight by knockout in the first round, so I’m expecting him to come at me from the first bell.”

Doyle out-pointed Matt Seawright on his pro debut at Oaklands Sports Centre last October and can’t wait to return to the ring.

“My first fight was a great experience – the whole occasion and the fact that he was a good opponent,” he said. “Now I’m looking to get my second win.”

Both men will be fighting over six two-minute rounds for the first time, having previously boxed over four two-minute rounds.

Walli also made his debut against Seawright, losing on points in March last year.

Doyle, who is trained in York by Glen Banks, has sold about 40 tickets for the show.

Tickets are available by phoning Doyle on 07515 163176 or on the door.
