York RI move nearer to York Badminton League title glory

York RI Monday/Wednesday A kept control of the men’s division one title with a 6-3 away win over University Students ‘A’ in the York Badminton League.

Mark Harris and Ollie Cohen were taken to a deciding end twice before winning all three rubbers for the best Institute return of 166-132.

Clifton ‘B’ put in a good home display to beat a strong University Students ‘B’ team 7-2.

Kevin Davison and Denis Cleary did the damage to the campus with a great series that returned 126-95 from straight wins.

Adam Harvey and Simon Templeman took three wins for St John’s against Shepherds in men’s two, but couldn’t stop their side sliding to a 6-3 away defeat.

Paul Nichol and John Harwood clinched the overall win with a 14 and 11 victory over St John’s Dan Grayson and Andrew Noblet.

York RI Monday/Wednesday C were good value for a 6-3 win at Selby Jubilee ‘B’ in men’s three. M.Poulter and C Thompson provided the impetus with three well-taken wins for a total of 126-70, which included a 21-8, 21-14 success over J Collins and Paul Newnham who scored two Jubilee wins.

Fulfordgate went down 5-4 at home to a strong University Staff team.

Jack Kitiwong and Hanif Ismail were on top form for the campus staff and took all three rubbers for a total of 143-102.

Clifton ‘A’ kept up their good run of form in mixed one with a 6-3 win over hosts Students ‘A’.

James Hor and Liz McFadzean took all three campus points for a total of 159-136, but Karen Broster and Daniel Woolfson made the result safe with an 8 and 13 triumph over Chris Ashley and Rachel Barratt.

Clifton ‘C’ moved into the promotion shake-up in mixed two after a 5-4 success at promotion-chasing University Students ‘B’ and a 6-3 home win over leaders Selby/Drax ‘A’. Matt Love and Melanie Knowles swung the match in the eighth rubber against the University with a 10 and 7 win over Tim Green and Clare Breare.

Gerry Screeton and Steve Colley led the Clifton charge against Selby with three fine wins for 156-139. Selby/Drax bounced back with an 8-1 away win over Selby Jubilee ‘A’. Andrew Dunning and Lisa Ward excelled for the visitors, taking three wins for 149-118 from the number three pairing position.
