Clifton ‘A’ are favourites for the York Badminton League ladies division one title after a 7-2 away win over St John.

Karen Anderson and Heather Clarke laid the foundations for the visitors’ success with three wins for 142-76.

Tadcaster were 6-3 home winners over Huntington in ladies two, with Lesley Bowling and Alison Ward starring again.

Clifton ‘A’ kept up the pressure on men’s one leaders RI Monday/ Wednesday ‘A’ with a 9-0 win at University Students ‘A’. George Noble and Eric Wagenaars were in tremendous form for the visitors, taking all three rubbers.

University Students ‘B’ helped their survival bid in men’s one with an 8-1 home win over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’. James Somerside and Adam Hirst starred for the campus side.

Tadcaster beat visitors St John 6-3 in men’s two, despite a fine showing from St John’s Adam Harrison and Mike Truswell.

Clifton ‘C’ moved into second place in men’s two with a 5-4 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘A’. James Dawson and James Barrett had three Jubilee wins, but Clifton rallied.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘B’ lead men’s two after a 9-0 home win over Selby/Drax ‘B’. New pairing Dave Preece and James Rodgers were best for the Institute.

RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’ were 6-3 home winners over Shepherds. Ian Sinker and Brian Morley justified their opening pair status with three RI wins.

Knavesmire had mixed fortunes in men’s three, winning 8-1 at home to Selby Jubilee and then losing 9-0 at University Students ‘C’.

John Major and David Brogden starred against Jubilee.

Fulfordgate were 7-2 victors at Terrys in men’s three. Alan Roberts and Garry Hall were in great form for the visitors.

Clifton ‘B’ scored a 7-2 home win over a tough Shepherds team in mixed one.

Heather Clarke and Dave Rogers were in excellent form for Clifton.

Selby Jubilee ‘A’ notched a morale-boosting 7-2 home win over mixed two leaders University Students ‘B’.
