York RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ maintained their grip on the men’s one title race with 9-0 wins over Clifton ‘B’ and University Students ‘B’ in the York Badminton League.

Paul Turner and Sam Kee were the pick of the RI pairings, taking six straight wins for a two-match total of 254-174.

University Students ‘A’ recorded a 7-2 home win over a depleted Selby/Drax ‘A’ team, also in men’s one.

James Hor and Baillie Watterson were in sparkling form once again for the campus team, taking their allocation in straight games and conceding only 38 points.

University Students ‘C’ team also played well to record a comprehensive 9-0 away win over Selby Jubilee ‘B’ in men’s three.

Stephen Hallett and Sam Teasdale put in the best display for the visitors with a season’s best so far of 126-58 in straight sets.

Fulfordgate entertained Copmanthorpe in men’s three and lost out 5-4 in a highly competitive match.

Mat Hobman and Steve Walker took three home wins for a total of 144-104.

However, John Harford and Martin Waller kept their nerve in the final rubber to score a matchwinning 15 and 14 success over Mark Winfield and Geoff Hepworth.

RI Monday/Wednesday Ladies ‘B’ went down 5-4 at home to Selby/Drax, who were only fielding two pairings.

Clifton ‘A’ stayed in the title hunt in mixed one with an 8-1 home win over a lively University Students ‘A’ team.

George Noble and Karen Anderson hit top form for the victors and easily recorded the best home return of 127-93.

St John’s recorded their third win in mixed one after a 5-4 away win over Shepherds.

Mike Truswell and Nikki Hainsworth were best for the new campus with a matchwinning maximum which returned 159-120.

They included a 21-10, 19-21, 21-15 victory over Chiara Secchi and Paul Nichol, who grabbed two home wins.

Shepherds suffered a further reverse when they visited RI Monday/Wednesday ‘B’ and went down 8-1.

Joyce Petch and Paul Turner combined well to win all three of their games for a total return of 129-87.

James Pearson and Lisa McLaren picked up the consolation with a 21-14, 17-21, 21-15 triumph over Sam Kee and Sophie Wilson.

University Students ‘B’ played well to register a 6-3 home win over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’.

Clare Breare and Tahir Shetty were in tremendous form for the campus outfit and took three wins for a 161-143 return from the second pairing spot.

Selby/Drax ‘A’ moved into second place in mixed two after a 7-2 home win over Clifton ‘C’ and a 9-0 home result over Riverside ‘B’.

Scott Anderson and Michelle Hall were the top Selby pair in both matches and took six wins from six rubbers for a two-match total of 253-127.

University Students ‘C’ head mixed three after a 6-3 home win over a gritty Knavesmire team.

Oliver Metcalfe and Louise Kemp were the top Student pair, taking all three games for a 146-87 return. That included a 20-22, 21-13, 21-15 verdict over Joy Wilson and Dave Brogden, who played well to take two wins.

Selby Jubilee ‘B’ have three wins from their six matches in mixed four after a 6-3 home win over Middlethorpe.

Tim Rowson and Lynn Dawson took the vital maximum for a total of 146-107, but they were taken to a third end by Martin Waller and Hazel Quarrie before winning 21-18, 19-21, 21-11.
