Clifton ‘A’ are still undefeated in ladies division one of the York Badminton League after a good team display toppled St John’s 9-0 in straight sets.
Karen Broster and Lucy Smith, in particular, were in great form for the St Peter’s-based club with an excellent return of 126-46.
St John’s Ladies suffered a further reverse when they entertained their local rivals York University and lost 7-2. Laura Suddaby and Rebecca Moore set the standard for the Heslington campus with three wins for 139-98, including a 13-21, 21-16, 21-16 success over Joy Wong and Nikki Hainsworth who took both St John’s points.
RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’ suffered two heavy defeats in men’s one after an 8-1 home defeat by Clifton ‘A’ and a 9-0 loss at Riverside.
Steve Colley and George Noble were best for Clifton ‘A’ by taking all three in straight games for 126-51.
The Fowler brothers, Alex and Andy, were never troubled in taking a return of 126-51 as Riverside cruised to a maximum win.
Selby/Drax ‘A’ are still seeking their first win after a narrow 5-4 defeat at University Students ‘B’.
Tref Provis-Evans and T Dainty were the campus match-winners with all three games for 139-105, which included the vital ninth where they beat Rex Pocklington and Naz Shefta 21-15, 22-20 to clinch the match.
Clifton ‘C’ hit top form in men’s two to score a 7-2 triumph at Selby Jubilee ‘A’.
Matt Knight and Dave Woods were the top Clifton pair with three wins for 147-113, which included a tense 21-17, 19-21, 23-21 success over Andy Hatfield and Tim Ronson.
Selby Jubilee ‘B’ also lost out 7-2 at home to Terry’s in men’s three.
John Richardson and Chris Smethurst top-scored for the visitors with three wins for 129-85.
RI Mon/Wed ‘C’ scored their second conquest after a 6-3 home victory over Copmanthorpe.
Paul Turner and Chris Thompson led by example to score the only Institute maximum for a total of 142-114. Ian Thompson and Pete O’Toole took two Copmanthorpe.
Selby/Drax ‘A’ posted their third win from five matches in mixed two after a 6-3 home triumph over University Students ‘B’.
Andrew Dunning and Lisa Ward led the way for the Selby side with three wins for 144-119, including an 18-21, 21-18, 21-15 conquest of Tim Green and Laura Suddaby.
Tadcaster 86 ‘B’ beat hosts Selby/Drax ‘B’ 6-3. Tim Watson and Yvonne Matlhouse took three wins for 152-138.
