Clifton ‘A’ are still unbeaten in men’s division one of the York Badminton League after a 7-2 win at RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’.

The third pairing of Richard McIntosh and Ian Sadler were Clifton’s top performers with three wins for a team-best return. Paul Forth and Soren Stendevad took both Institute wins but lost 21-13, 19-21, 14-21 to McIntosh and Sadler.

Clifton’s old rivals RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ are also unbeaten after a 9-0 home win over Riverside. Chris Hunt and James Pauw led the way for a strong Institute team with three straight wins.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘B’ proved too strong for RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’ in men’s two. They powered to a 6-3 away win with each rubber being taken in straight games.

Loz Smith and Dave Preece were best for the winners with three straight wins. Ian Sinker and Brian Morley took two Tuesday rubbers in a good display.

Selby/Drax ‘B’ are still searching for their first win after a 7-2 home defeat by Tadcaster 86. Pete Smith and John Greenhalgh did the damage for the visitors with three straight wins for 126-86.

University Staff won the battle of the campus with a 5-4 triumph over their University Students ‘C’ team in men’s three. Kriang Sak and Sara Chai were the staff match-winners with a hard-fought maximum.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ ladies bounced back from their Clifton defeat with an 8-1 home win over University Students ‘A’ team. Nicola Coggins and Joyce Petch hit top form to register three straight Institute wins.

St John’s enjoyed their second win in mixed one with a tough 5-4 success at Riverside ‘A’. Adam Harrison and Nikki Hainsworth made the student difference with three wins, which included the match-clinching 21-14, 19-21, 21-19 victory over Craig Dobson and Tricia Fowler.

But St John’s then lost 7-2 at University Student ‘A’.

James Hor and Rachel Farrington were in great form for the Heslington team and were virtually untroubled in taking all three matches.

Clifton ‘B’ had an up and down time in mixed one after a 6-3 away win over Shepherds was followed by a 7-2 defeat at RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’. Kevin Davison and Shelagh Barker starred against Shepherds with a close, hard-fought maximum. Chris Hunt and Alex Darlington were best for the Institute with three wins.

Huntington ‘B’ posted their third victory in four outings after an 8-1 win over an in-form Pocklington team. Paul Moisley and Carolyn Arden put in an excellent series while Derek Burt and Yvonne Neave stopped the maximum with a 6-21, 21-10, 21-15 win over Stuart Thomson and Corrine Lightowler.
