UNIVERSITY Students ‘A’ made it two wins in a row after a 6-3 away conquest over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’ in men’s division one of the York Badminton League.

James Hor and Baillie Watterson took the student honours with three wins for 145-99, including a tough 19-21, 21-10, 21-19 success over the Institute pair of Chris Wan and Mike Powell.

St John’s opened their men’s two campaign with a 6-3 home win over Shepherds followed by a 9-0 home victory over Tadcaster 86. Adam Harrison and Mike Trusswell showed good early season form for the Uni ranks by taking all three in both matches for a six-rubber total of 253-122.

Shepherds earlier entertained RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’ and won 5-4. James Pearson and Paul Nichol swung the match for the home team with an excellent series to cram a return of 127-81. Ian Sinker and Brian Morley took two Institute wins, but lost out 16 and 15 to Pearson and Nichol.

University Students ‘C’ opened their men’s three season with a 5-4 away win over Copmanthorpe and a 9-0 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘B’.

Dan Hirst and Tse-Chiv Tang starred against Copmanthorpe with three wins, which included a tense 24-22, 18-21, 23-21 triumph over the top village pair of Paul Marshall and Xiao Cheng Ge. The campus pair of Sam Teasdale and Stephen Hallett topped the averages against Jubilee with a return of 144-106.

Selby Jubilee suffered a further reverse when they entertained Fulfordgate and went down 7-2.

Mat Hobman and Steve Walker starred for the visitors with a 142-112 maximum, including a 16-21, 21-15, 21-13 win over J Collins and T Wild who grabbed both Jubilee successes.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ had a 6-3 win over close rivals Clifton ‘A’, followed by a 9-0 demolition of Riverside ‘A’. Chris Hunt and Kate Jackson took their allocation against Clifton with ease, emphasising their opening pair status, with a return of 126-61.

St John’s opened their mixed one account with a 6-3 home win over a lively Shepherds team.

Nicola Hainsworth and Adam Harrison hit good home form to record three student wins for a total of 149-112. James Pearson and Lisa McClaren played well to score two Shepherd wins but lost out 21-23, 16-21 to Hainsworth and Harrison.

Clifton ‘B’ scored a fine 5-4 home win over University Students ‘A’.

Kevin Davison and Shelagh Barker saw their side home with a well taken maximum for a total of 163-134. Baillie Watterson and Clare Breare played well to take two student wins and just lost out 23-21, 10-21, 16-21 to Davison and Barker.

Clifton ‘C’ posted a 7-2 home win over University Students ‘C’ in mixed two. Gerry Screeton and Steve Colley did the damage with three wins for 144-104.

University Students ‘C’ kept up their good home form in mixed three with a hard-fought 8-1 win over Tadcaster 86.

Oliver Metcalfe and Louise Kemp took the best campus return with 142-100, while John Greenhaulgh and Marina Hilditch stopped the whitewash with a 21-17, 15-21, 21-15 win over Tom Dainty and Emma Sari.
