Riverside opened their men’s one season with a 5-4 home win over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ in the York Badminton League.

Matt Hitchens and Soren Stendevad took three RI wins, but Chris Swift and Geoff Oxley swung the match with a victory over Paul Forth and Charles Pasfield in the final rubber.

RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ had earlier proved too strong for their ‘B’ club-mates, winning 7-2.

Hitchens and Ian Sinker led the way for the ‘A’ team with three straight wins.

Clifton ‘A’ powered to an 8-1 home win over University Students ‘B’. Daniel Woolfson and David Rodgers headed the home returns with three straight wins.

Clifton ‘C’ hit good home form in men’s two with a 9-0 win over Selby/Drax ‘B’. Dave Woods and Simon Christian were the pick with three straight wins.

Selby Jubilee ‘A’ were good value for a 5-4 win at Tadcaster 86 ‘A’. James Dawson and James Barrett swung the result for the visitors with three excellent wins.

York RI Monday/Wednesday ‘C’ went down 6-3 to Fulfordgate in their first men’s three match. Matt Hobman and Steve Walker secured three wins.

YUSC opened their account with a 6-3 win over Copmanthorpe and an 8-1 success against Selby Jubilee ‘B’. New pair Raja Marwah and Shafiq Mohamed played well against Jubilee to take three wins.

RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ stormed to a 9-0 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘A’ in mixed two.

Clifton ‘C’ were stretched by Riverside ‘B’ before scoring a 5-4 home win. Steve Colley and Gerry Screeton swung the match for Clifton with three wins.

Fulfordgate ‘A’ opened their mixed three season with 5-4 wins over Selby/Drax ‘B’ and Knavesmire.

Susan Scott and Steven Smith starred as RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’ beat Fulfordgate ‘B’ 7-2 in mixed four.

RI T/Thurs ‘C’ then entertained Selby Jubilee ‘B’ and lost out 5-4.

Selby Jubilee ‘B’ went on to beat Pocklington 5-4.
