Clifton ‘A’ look to have consolidated second place in men’s division one of the York Badminton League with a 9-0 home win over RI Tues/Thurs ‘A’ and a 5-4 defeat at Riverside.

Daniel Woolfson and Erik Wagenaars were best for Clifton against the Institute, while Craig Dobson and Alex Fowler starred for Riverside against Clifton with three straight wins.

Clifton ‘B’ recorded a 6-3 win at Tadcaster in men’s one. Kevin Davison and Richard West were in top form for the visitors with a straight games maximum.

Riverside played reverse fixtures against York RI Mon/Wed ‘A’, losing 9-0 at home and 6-3 away in men’s one. Chris Hunt and Mark Harris starred for the leaders at Poppleton with three easy wins.

However, in the Railway Institute home fixture, the Fowler brothers, Alex and Andy salvaged some Riverside pride with three wins.

St John upset the form book in men’s two with a 5-4 win at Selby Jubilee ‘A’. Martin Overton and James Dawson took three Jubilee wins, but Simon Templeman and Dan Gration kept their nerve to swing the match for the university.

RI Mon/Wed ‘B’ finished their men’s three season unbeaten after an 8-1 home win over Knavesmire. Ben Wheller and Matt Evans were the home team top pair.

Fulfordgate closed the campaign with a 7-2 win at University Staff Club. Andrew Johnson and Matt Hobman picked up three wins.

RI Tues/Thurs ‘C’ improved their chances of promotion with a 9-0 home win over Terry’s.

Copmanthorpe also finished their season with a success after a 6-3 away win over Selby Jubilee ‘B’.

Clifton ‘A’ sealed second place in mixed one with a 7-2 home win over RI Mon/Wed ‘B’. Erik Wagenaars and Gill McIntosh put in the best display.

Rowntrees finally opened their mixed two account with a 5-4 home win over RI Tues/Thurs ‘A’. Rowntrees had earlier entertained Tadcaster ’86 ‘A’ and lost 5-4.

RI Tues/Thurs ‘C’ face a play-off with Huntington ‘B’ for the second promotion place from mixed five after both teams ended on equal results. The Institute beat Selby Jubilee ‘B’ 5-4 in their final match.
