RIVERSIDE made it five wins in a row after a superb 5-4 triumph at Clifton ‘B’ in men’s division one of the York Badminton League.

Alex Fowler and Andy Newby were the visitors’ match-winners after taking their best return of the season with three straight wins for a total of 126-51. Kevin Davison and Mike Hourston took two for Clifton but lost 10 and 12 to Fowler and Newby.

Clifton ‘B’ hit back with a 7-2 home win over RI Tues/Thurs ‘A’. Davison and Hourston were best for the Clifton team again, taking their three rubbers for a total of 144-103.

University Students ‘B’ narrowly kept their men’s two unbeaten sequence intact when they prised a narrow 5-4 win at Shepherds.

James Somerside and Adam Hirst took three student wins for 142-126 in a great performance, but it was left to the third campus pairing of Rory Muse and Alex Doyle to seal the match with an 8 and 10 success in the last rubber over Sam Watson and Dave Piercy.

Visiting St John’s were good value for a 6-3 win at Selby Drax ‘B’. Adam Harvey and Ben Farthing led the line for the new University with three straight wins for a total of 126-79.

Selby Jubilee ‘A’ maintained their mid-table position with a 5-4 home win over Clifton ‘C’.

Mike Stevens and Pete Murphy were the top Jubilee pairing, and took the match-winning maximum with a total of 157-134 from three hard-fought wins. Simon Christian and Dave Woods were best for Clifton with two wins in a good display.

York RI ‘B’ stayed top of men’s three with a 7-2 home win over second-placed University Students ‘C’.

Richard Morley and Sam Kee excelled for another maximum which included a 19-21, 21-12, 29-27 win over Rory Muse and Ollie Metcalf who went on to take both University wins in a gritty display.

The highest scoring rubber this season happened in the ninth rubber when Matt Evans and Ben Wheller beat Tim Robson and Stephen Hallett 30-29, 26-28, 25-23.

Copmanthorpe played well to record a 5-4 home win over Fulfordgate.

Ian Thompson and Mark Wilson swung the match for the home team with an excellent maximum for a total of 144-122, which included a 9 and 17 triumph over Alan Roberts and Garry Hall, who took two wins for the visitors.

University Staff visited Terrys and put in an excellent team display to score a 9-0 win. Hanif Ismail and John Campbell top-scored with 127-84, but Richard Mounce and Peter Huang also took three for 180-155 after going to a deciding end in all three rubbers.
