UNIVERSITY Students men’s ‘A’ hit a rich vein of form in men’s division one of the York Badminton League with convincing wins over Clifton ‘B’ and Tadcaster ’86 home and away.
The 9-4 home win over a lively Clifton ‘B’ team saw Tom Gatenby and Ricky Kanabar come out on top with three straight wins for 126-72.
The 7-2 triumph at Tadcaster showed the consistent form of James Somerside and Dave Hope, who led the campus averages with a total of 158-152 from three narrow wins.
Clifton ‘B’ excelled in a 9-0 home win over Selby/Drax B’.
Mike Hourston and Kevin Davison led the way for the St Peter’s-based club with a well-taken maximum for a total of 126-77.
University Students ‘B’ head men’s two after a 9-0 home win over their nearest rivals, RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’.
Tashir Shetty and Chris Asskey, playing together for the first time this season, put in a tremendous series that brought them three straight wins for 126-78.
York RI ‘B’ still lead men’s three unbeaten after a 9-0 win at Selby Jubilee was followed closely by a 7-2 success at a tough Copmanthorpe team.
Against Jubilee, the young but experienced pairing of Kelvin Benton and Paul Turner, took the best return with three straight wins for 126-73.
Ben Wheller and Matt Evans were best for the Institute against Copmanthorpe with a return of 157-114, which included a 21-7, 17-21, 21-9 over Graeme Butcher and Tony McGale, who took both Copmanthorpe wins.
