Tadcaster 86 Ladies improved their promotion chances from division two of the York Badminton League with a 5-4 home win over St John’s.
Nicola Hainsworth and Sallyann Travers took three University wins for a return of 127-77, but Maria Parks and Liz Rowlatt clinched the home win with an 19 and 14 ninth-rubber triumph over Rachel Walker and Claire Bird.
University Students ‘B’ increased their grip on the men’s division two title with an 8-1 home win over a depleted Pocklington side.
Baillie Watterson and Alex Chu top-scored for the campus team, while James Neary and Kevin Chidlow picked up the consolation with a 24-22, 13-21, 21-17 success over James Somerside and Kasper Johannesen.
RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’ kept their hold on second spot with a 6-3 home win over a strong St John’s team.
Hwa Kong and Chris Gethin were in scintillating form for the Institute taking all three in straight games for 126-83, which included an 11 and 17 triumph over Craig Middleton and Simon Templeman, who took two campus wins.
Terry’s lost out twice at home in men’s division three.
A 7-2 defeat by Fulfordgate was followed by a 6-3 loss to Knavesmire.
Garry Hall and Alan Roberts set the standard for Fulfordgate with three wins for 154-132, while the father and son pairing of Richard and Jacob Rodgers took all three Terry wins against Knavesmire to record a hard-fought 155-131 conquest.
The battle of the Heslington campus saw University Staff lose out 7-2 to the University Students ‘C’ team. Ollie Metcalfe and Rory Muse were the pick of the student pairings with three wins for 147-105.
Clifton ‘A’ kept ahead of the pack in mixed one with a 9-0 home win over Selby/Drax ‘A’.
Daniel Woolfson and Karen Broster enjoyed a comfortable series against a Selby team lacking confidence and eventually returned 126-67 from three straight wins to top the home averages.
Clifton ‘B’ went down 8-1 at home to York RI ‘A’, who are currently in second place.
Chris Hunt and Kate Jackson led the Institute charge from the front by scoring three comfortable wins for 134-67.
Clifton ‘C’ are still waiting for their first win after an 8-1 home defeat by University Students ‘A’.
The brother and sister pairing of Thanut and Natha Tritasavit were the top performing campus pair with three straight wins for 126-80.
Tadcaster 86 ‘A’ kept up their improvement in form with a 6-3 home win over the RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ team in mixed two.
Pete Smith and Leslie Bowling lived up to their opening pairing status with three Tadcaster wins for 152-108, which included a 21-19, 12-21, 21-17 success over Susie Madison and Loz Smith, who took two Institute wins.
Huntington enjoyed their third win in a row with a 7-2 victory over Riverside ‘B’ in mixed three.
John Deighton and Theresa Roberts-Hardy turned on the style with a superb maximum for a return of 142-97.
Sue Sharpe and Ian McInlay played well for Riverside to take a lone success.
Selby/Drax ‘B’ enjoyed their second win with an 8-1 home win over Varsity. Naz and Sabira Shefta were the pick of the home pairings with three wins for 141-103. Sally Locker and Gary Turner picked up the consolation point.
Fulfordgate ‘A’ claimed the top place in mixed four after 7-2 wins over Pocklington and Fulfordgate ‘B’.
Matt Hobman and Hazel Winfield took ‘A’ team maximums in both matches for a six-rubber return of 252-104. James Neary and Gill Moorehouse took both Pocklington wins in a good display against the leaders.
