Second York Badminton League win for Huntington ladies


Huntington scored their second win in ladies division two with a 7-2 home success over Selby Jubilee in the York Badminton League.

Steph Bevan and Jo Murphy took both Jubilee wins in a fine display, but lost out 10 and 17 to Bev Tebbutt and Angela Hobman, who took the best home return of 126-65.

Tadcaster 86 are still looking for their first win in men’s one after losing out 2-7 to both Clifton ‘B’ and RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’.

Kevin Davison and Peter Minnikin excelled for Clifton ‘B’ in the Tadcaster match with three straight wins for 126-65.

Equally Matt Hitchens and Soren Stendevad were outstanding for RI Tues/Thurs ‘A’, winning all three for a 126-71 return.

Clifton ‘A’ moved to the top of men’s one with a 7-2 home win over a strong Riverside team.

Rob Metcalfe and Erik Wagenaars top-scored for Clifton with three wins for 141-124, which included a narrow 22-20, 10-21, 23-21 over Craig Dobson and Alex Fowler, who took both Riverside wins.

Copmanthorpe and Knavesmire played their reverse fixtures in men’s three, with Knavesmire winning their home match 7-2 and Copmanthorpe triumphing in their home fixture by a 6-3 margin.

Paul Rogers and Dave Brogden top-scored for Knavesmire at home with three straight for 156-145, while Tony McGale and Graeme Butcher sealed the Copmanthorpe home win with a 14-21, 21-17, 21-19 over Dave Brogden and Paul Rogers.

York RI ‘B’ tightened their grip on the men’s three title after a 9-0 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘B’. Ben Wheller and Matt Evans took the Institute honours with their best return so far of three straight successes for 126-54.

York RI Tues/Thurs ‘C’ also kept in the promotion hunt in men’s three with a 6-3 away win over a spirited Fulfordgate team. Matt Hobman and Andrew Johnson took all three home wins in another fine display, but Steve Smith and Tony Kirkman finally sealed the visitors’ win with a 16 and 13 victory over Alan Roberts and Geoff Hepworth.

RI Mon/Wed ‘B’ scored an expected 8-1 home win over Clifton ‘C’ in mixed one. Mike Corley and Anne Stephenson opened well for the Institute and carried their form well to top the averages with 126-74.

Peter Minnikin and Ronnie Davison stopped the whitewash with a 15-21, 21-18, 21-19 win over Sam Kee and Heather Turner.

RI Tues/Thurs ‘A’ played well to score a 5-4 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘A’ in mixed two.

Steph Bevan and James Barrett played well to capture two Jubilee successes, but Dave Preece and Susie Maddison swung the match for the Institute with three wins for 126-76, which included the match-clinching ninth with a 13 and 15 over Mike Stevens and Lynn Redman.

RI Tues/Thurs ‘B’ kept their grip on the mixed one title with a comprehensive 9-0 home win over Middlethorpe. Paul Forth and Rachel Simister were untroubled in taking the best return of 126-48.

Huntington ‘B’ kept in second place in mixed five with a 6-3 home win over RI Tues/Thurs ‘C’. Paul Mosley and Carolyn Arden played well to top-score for Huntington with three wins.
