Clifton’s continue resurgence in York Badminton League


Clifton ‘A’ maintained their resurgent York Badminton League form with a 9-0 home win over York RI ‘B’ in ladies division one.

Heather Clarke and Karen Anderson top-scored for Clifton with three straight wins for a season’s best total of 126-57.

Clifton’s men’s ‘A’ team also put in an excellent display to win 9-0 at Selby/Drax ‘A’ in men’s one.

Erik Waggnaars and Kevin Davison, paired together for the first time, were the pick with three wins for a 145-92 scoreline. That included a 21-10, 19-21, 21-11 success over Scott Anderson and Dennis Bradley.

Riverside have three wins from four outings after a comfortable 9-0 home win over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ in men’s one.

Craig Dobson and Ian McInlay led the way for the Poppleton-based club with the best average of 142-100.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ also beat a depleted Selby/Drax ‘A’ team 9-0. Oliver Cohen and Mark Harris claimed the best Institute return of 126-47.

University Students ‘A’ came back to form in the same division with a 7-2 win at Clifton ‘B’.

James Hor and Thanut Tritasavit took the lone campus maximum for 159-125.

Men’s two leaders University Students ‘B’ racked up their sixth straight triumph after an 8-1 home win over Shepherds, who could only field two pairings.

Alex Chu and Baillie Watterson topped the Heslington campus averages, while Dave Simpson and Dave Byrom stopped the whitewash with an 18 and 15 success over James Somerside and Kasper Johannesen.

University Students ‘C’ scored a surprise 6-3 home win over men’s three leaders RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’.

Rory Muse and Ollie Metcalf put the students on the winning track with a superb maximum, the highlight being a 21-8, 19-21, 21-11 win over Tony Kirkman and Bill Clemmit, who took two Institute wins.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘A’ kept on the heels of mixed one leaders Clifton ‘A’ with a 9-0 home conquest of University Students ‘A’.

Chris Hunt and Kate Jackson, currently leading the Institute averages, proved their value once again with three straight wins for a 126-72 return.
