MEN’S lacrosse led the way for the University of York in their latest round of British Universities and Colleges Sports fixtures.

The first team demolished Durham thirds 28-1 for a fifth successive win and leadership of the table, backed by an unassailable goal difference of 116.

However, the women’s firsts suffered their first defeat of the season, slipping to a narrow 14-11 loss against leaders Northumbria.

In hockey, the men’s firsts extended their unbeaten start to the BUCS season, but were held to a draw by Leeds seconds as Leo Watton’s penalty flick earned York a point. The women’s firsts also secured a valuable point with a determined display against a strong Sheffield Hallam side.

York netball firsts climbed to second in their BUCS league after a 38-28 victory over Hull.

Meanwhile, the seconds tore up Teesside returning as 56-12 victors, while the thirds beat York St John to record their second win of the campaign.

York men’s badminton firsts succumbed to a heavy 7-1 defeat against Sheffield for their first loss of the season, while the women’s firsts drew with their Newcastle counterparts to remain unbeaten.

The men’s and women’s seconds both won 8-0 against York St John and Teesside respectively.

In squash, York men’s firsts continued their superb start to the season, making it four wins out of four, with a hard-fought victory over a strong Durham firsts side.

They currently sit top of the table after a string of impressive performances.
