Jonny’s no remedy for ‘dire ping pong’

“Jonny’s drive for perfection will make him a great coach” screamed out the headline in the national press.

The national hero, Jonny Wilkinson, as a great coach? Remarkable kicker that he is, what handling ability will he be able to bring to his rugby union game?

If that code persists in forwarding goal-kickers and second-rowers as its future as coaches, I fear the dire ping-pong fare now on offer will just escalate.

Perhaps the only way to make RU the handling game it was meant to be would be to make all the players wear pumps.
