WHAT a fantastic golfer York-born Simon Dyson, who has links with Malton & Norton Golf Club, has become.

Good stuff comes from Malton. When the Ian Poulters, Rory McIlroys and Lee Westwoods of the golfing world were receiving all the plaudits, what Simon did he did in true sporting family Dyson tradition.

With back spasms, warts and all, he got his head down and ground out results.

Best Englishman at The Open Championship, he beat all the Irish stars on their own midden to win the Irish Open and, to crown it all, he wins the Dutch KLM Open for a third time to put his name alongside two of golf’s greatest ever, Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer.
