I am writing to you after recently reading the article in The Press regarding York City possibly staying at Bootham Crescent.

As a season ticket holder for many years and away supporter too, this is a subject of great importance.

I have been holding off sending this for quite some time, but the lack of activity regarding this issue has prompted me to write.

It is now seven years since the fans helped to save York City, but we seem no nearer to moving since we were back then.

Since the Save City Campaign, the club is in as strong a position as we have been since being in the Conference, and there is definitely enough interest to support a redeveloped stadium – as was proved by the followings of 12,000 at Wembley and 4,500 at Stoke. Plus crowds are on the up at the home games this season.

Now I, along with a lot of other York fans, think that the best option would be to stay at Bootham Crescent and redevelop the site there.

Obviously the key to this is the barracks site in Burton Stone Lane, but I feel with a couple of on-board partners this would be achievable and to the benefit of the local community.

I think I’m correct in thinking the council has also pledged £4 million to this project from the sale of Huntington Stadium, so is it not feasible to buy the barracks, turn the ground round and redevelop two or three sides of the ground?

It took a massive effort from York City fans seven years ago to safeguard their future at Bootham Crescent and it would be a tragedy if these efforts went to waste.

Any move to Huntington would be impossible.

I also know many York City Knights fans also attend City matches and they would welcome a return to the city centre.

A commonsense approach and we will have a stadium to be proud of, and hopefully, a team back in the Football League where it belongs.
