It's interesting to see that City of York Council have been able to secure £40 million of funding for their proposed state of the art' headquarters in Stonebow, yet their silence over statements of support and intent for York City FC's desired community stadium is deafening.

Since the club was saved several years ago by the Supporters' Trust and more recently by JM Packaging (family business of Jason McGill) the support of the city's council and major businesses in York has been very disappointing.

With crowds now below 2,000 and with the club having to finance on-going interest payments of £140,000 per year on the current Football Foundation loan of £2 million (to re-purchase our own ground) and upkeep costs of £60,000 per year, the club are now struggling financially.

It appears that City of York Council are willing to allow the club to fold, rather than take immediate, positive steps to support the club in identifying a suitable site for a community stadium that would not only benefit York City FC and its supporters, but also York City Knights and other smaller sports clubs in the city.

A new community stadium would relieve the club of the existing financial chains and would allow the club to look forward to a much more positive future and assist the club in its aims to restore league status.

Come on Mr Galloway (and City of York Council) - prove to the supporters of York City and the residents of York that you truly support professional and amateur sport in York.

Other towns and cities in England provide major funding for their football clubs. Why not York?

If £40m can be found for your new HQ, why not a much smaller sum be found to assist York City to provide first-class facilities for its two main sports clubs and its supporters and sports fans?
