THE Services To Sport award to Pete Ulliott in the York Sports Awards is an honour most richly deserved.

Although a lover of rugby league, I was never good enough or brave enough to face Pete on a rugby league pitch, so we first met when I had the security of a whistle.

Admiration of this slim guy taking on the biggest of opponents was instant, all done with that repaired broken-nose smile on his face.

That enjoyment has obviously been transferred to the many young players who have been lucky enough to have been coached by Pete.

A more modest gentleman you could never meet. It's a pleasure to know him.
