AFTER nearly 60 years of playing cricket, veteran John Kinghorn has finally hit his first-ever century.
The 69-year-old was playing for Pickering fourth team against Wykeham thirds in Scarborough Beckett League division four west on Saturday when he brought up the magical three figures in an unbeaten knock of 105.
Pickering were beaten in the game, but Kinghorn will not mind too much - nor will his batting partner, 12-year-old Louie Jemison, who was making his first senior appearance. The pair, an archetypal combination of youth and experience, put on a super stand of 96.
Fourth team captain Gary Newton joked: "I never thought I'd see him with a score bigger than his age.
"The rest of the team would be happy enough to be able to turn out at 69, let alone score a ton."
