KATHRYN CORDELL of Wigginton Squash Club kept her focus to win this year's York Ladies Squash Open final.
Meanwhile, in the Plate, David Lloyd's Max Rowntree stood her ground well but lost out to the strong challenge of Malton's Emma Clarke.
Although the open was held on familiar territory at David Lloyd York Squash Club, Rowntree was overpowered, going down 3-0.
The final was as close as expected, taking 45 minutes to finish the four games.
Title-holder Louise Moss of York Squash Rackets Club took the lead, winning the first game 9/5 but Wigginton's Cordell found her form to see off Moss 9/3 in the second game.
Moss had match ball in both the third and fourth games, in which both players ran for everything, but a determined and focused Cordell came back to win both games 10/8 and take the match 3-1.
