HEWORTH 'A' reached the York Conservative Clubs Snooker KO Cup final by coming from behind to shock champions Fulford 'A' 4-3.

Heworth will meet Acomb 'A', who had a much more comprehensive 6-1 victory over their 'B' team.

Fulford 'A' took a 3-1 lead as they seemed to be staying on course for a double.

They lost the first frame as John Dowd took pink and black to beat Sam England, but Tristan Owen potted well when given the chance against Heworth captain Steve Burdett, Cameron Fennell made the best break of the night with a frame-winning 54 against Richard Burdett, and Sam Parkinson got the better of James Kilmartin in a hard-fought contest.

The champions thus needed only one more frame - but Heworth had other ideas.

Carl Pullan beat Dave Sattaur, taking advantage of Sattaur's miss on the pink to take the last two colours.

Then Gary Douglas, the newly crowned Player of the Year, potted well to defeat Fulford captain Tom Lewis, and finally Neil Wood beat Dave Reed in a tense deciding frame.

In the other semi-final, Jeff Winter won the first frame for Acomb 'B' as he combined good safety play with solid potting to beat Keith Thornhill.

But this proved their only success as their 'A' team captain Richard Lillie led his side to victory.

Lillie defeated Andy Stone before Tim Lister came back from 60 points down to beat Nick Goodacre on the black ball. Goodacre attempted a fine cut but missed, giving the frame to Lister.

Paul Holmes had an easy win over Kevin Ventress before Mick Borg beat Jon Milner in an entertaining frame in which Borg made a 45 break and Milner a 25. Borg potted a long blue and then pink and black to win.

Nick Marchant then defeated Andy Wade and Phil Carlton (33 break) beat Chris Nicholson.
