FULFORD 'A' settled the York Conservative Clubs League title in emphatic fashion A as they ran out 7-0 winners over Acomb 'B' to put a 12-point margin over second-placed Acomb 'A' with only one match left to play.

Sam Parkinson led the way, beating Chris Nicholson, followed by Dave Sattaur defeating Andy Wade. Chris Fennell won the next against Kevin Ventress while Dave Reed included a 37 break in his win over Steve Rodgers.

Acomb's Andy Stone could not hold on to a 35-point lead as Russ Shaw pulled it back to secure victory for Fulford.

Sam England had to battle all the way against Jeff Winter, but took the last three colours to win and Fulford captain Tom Lewis was in fine form, hitting breaks of 25 and 27 in beating Jon Milner in the final frame.

The consolation for Acomb 'B' was they won the 'B' team League Trophy for the second year running.

Acomb 'A' moved into second spot in the league as they beat Fulford 'B' 5-2.

Paul Holmes got home on the black against Fulford's Wayne Puleston but Dean Smith levelled the match against Richard Lillie.

However, wins for Nick Marchant against Phil Cooke, Phil Carlton over Bob Smith and a black ball victory for Keith Thornhill against Mo Mohammed put Acomb 4-1 up.

Fulford's Glen Mountain produced a good 38 break against Mick Borg to reduce the deficit but Trevor Ventress overcame Alan Reed to give Acomb the win.

Malton beat Heworth 'B' 6-1 with the help of a walkover with Dave Battie Heworth's only winner as Steve Beal, Dominic Spiteri, Phil Hart, Dan Pawson and Chris Atkinson (37 break) proved too good for Heworth.

Heworth 'A' failed to hold on to second place in the league as they went down 4-3 to Bootham 'B'.

Chris Thompson led the way for Bootham, beating Kevin Gall, but Craig Pullan beat Ian Robinson to make it all-square.

Matt Smith beat Neil Wood and Paul Powell saw off Richard Burdett to put Bootham 3-1 up and Gary Douglas saw off fellow Player-of-the-Year contender Paul Mahoney on a re-spotted black in a terrific frame.

James Kilmartin beat Andy Proud and Lionel Barnes defeated Steve Burdett to win the match for Bootham.

Douglas now leads the way in the race for the accolade with 12 victories. A win in the one remaining game would secure him the trophy, but defeat could see the Fulford pair of Tom Lewis and Sam Parkinson take it if they win their last frames - in the final game against Douglas' Heworth side.
