FULFORD ‘A’ drew clear at the top of the York Conservative Clubs Snooker League table – extending their lead to nine points over Heworth ‘A’ and 10 over Acomb ‘A’ with two matches to play.

Fulford ‘A’ beat their ‘B’ team 5-2 after taking the first three frames through Chris Fennell (24 break) beating Phil Cooke, Dave Reed (30 break) defeating Aaron Spiers, and Dale Rout (22 break) getting the better of Lee Eldridge.

Dean Smith pulled one back for the ‘B’ team, beating Sam England, but further victories for Dave Sattaur against Mo Mohammed, and Tom Lewis over Bob Smith secured the win.

Alan Reed beat Russ Shaw in the last frame for the ‘B’ team’s second point.

With Heworth ‘A’ not having a game, Acomb ‘A’ closed in with a 4-3 win over Bootham ‘A’. The star performance, though, was by Bootham’s Barry Rankin, who overcame Keith Thornton (27 break) with a clearance of 42.

The other Bootham scorers were Rob Barron, who beat Paul Holmes, and Nathan Brown, who defeated Trevor Ventrass.

Nevertheless, captain Richard Lillie had put Acomb in front as he beat Andy Wynn, and further Acomb win followed from Jeff Keen, Tim Lister and Mick Borg (30, 27 breaks) over Colin Robinson, Stuart Martel and J Sucherih respectively.

Malton ran out 6-1 winners over Heworth ‘B’, despite losing the first frame when Dave Beattie beat Steve Pawson.

It was one-way traffic thereafter with wins for Steve Beal, Dominic Spiteri, Phil Hart, Dan Pawson, Chris Atkinson and a walkover.

Acomb ‘B’ moved a step closer to the ‘B’ team cup as they overcame Bootham ‘B’ 5-2.

Chris Nicholson lost to Matt Smith but Brian Henry, Kevin Ventress and John Ashwell put Acomb 3-1 up as they beat Chris Thompson, Ian Robinson and Lionel Barnes respectively.

Paul Mahoney kept up his winning streak for Bootham, beating Steve Rodgers to put himself in pole position for Player of the Year, but Andy Stone (24 break) and Jon Milner (24 break) completed the Acomb victory with wins over Paul Powell and Andy Proud.
