THREE City of York Athletic Club members helped England to gold medals in the combined SIAB Schools and Home Countries International at Wollaton Park Nottingham.

In the junior men’s race in the Home Counties International, Josh Schofield inflicted his first defeat of the season over teammate Angus McMillan.

Schofield came fourth in a time of 26mins 27secs for the 8km cross country course eight seconds ahead of McMillan who clocked 26-35. Their runs helped England achieve an emphatic win in the team race.

Josh Dickinson finished fifth in the SIAB (Schools International Athletics Board) event’s intermediate boys’ category as he covered the 6km course in 20-09. England dominated the team race as their runners filled the first eight places.

Elsewhere, City of York’s under-11 athlete Nancy Marshall secured second place in the South Yorkshire Indoor Series, coming second in the 600m and 150m while she finished sixth in the long jump.

There was also some outdoor track and field action to take in, with several club members competing in the Spenborough and District AC Spring Open.

Philippa Baxter led the way with victories in the junior women’s 100m and 200m races, clocking 12.8 and 26.3secs respectively.

Ruth Brandon (64.1) won the senior women’s 400m, Mark Cage (2-07.5) took the senior men’s 800m and Emily Maud claimed the U13 girls’ long in 3.88m.

A dozen City of York runners completed park runs, with James Tucker clocking 17-00 at the Knavesmire event, whilst Becky Wilkinson ran 19-22 in Hull.
