ACOMB Hockey Club Men I were beaten 3-1 at division two leaders Leeds Adel II who have become the first side to secure promotion.

Adel have been averaging over six goals per game since the turn of the year, but the Tangerines were unperturbed and put in one of their best performances of the season.

The hosts took a one-goal lead into the break, but Carrick Blacker cancelled this out shortly after the restart in a half which ebbed and flowed.

Acomb had their chances to take the lead but it was Adel who made the breakthrough, twice breaching the firm Tangerine defence and beating keeper Craig Brown from penalty corners.

Acomb II made it nine games unbeaten and stayed level on points with division five north leaders Bingley Bees after a 2-1 home win over Airedale III.

Possession was equally split in the early stages while keeper Richard Crossland matched the visitors' attempts on goal, deflecting one onto the post with a diving save.

The Tangerines' passing was not at its best and any chances went awry or were swept away by Airedale's key centre-back, and six minutes before the break, Airedale broke free and scored.

Jonny Brown levelled matters four minutes after the restart from a penalty corner and with six minutes remaining, Richard Luscombe completed the turnaround.
