NEW Earswick Ospreys condemned York Romans to bottom spot in Yorkshire Over-55s League division two after beating them 86-59 in the last fixture of term.
The Ospreys collected 12 points and the Romans two.
At Earswick, Gordon Johnson, Dave Booth, Vic Thompson and Eric Cookson had a tight game against Gordon Walker’s rink before winning six of seven ends to lead 22-9. York took a five at the last but Earswick prevailed 22-14.
Howard Darrell, Alan Price, Terry Bellwood and Kevin Potter dominated against M Snowdon to lead 22-7 before a Romans fightback left the final score at 22-16.
At Thanet Road, Pat Inwood, Vic Reed, Dave Hutchinson and Alwyn Anderson, after leading Alan May 8-6 after 10 ends, took off to win 21-8.
Alan Yoward’s rink were York’s only victors – just.
They led Gary Stockton, Dave Toms, John Taylor and Bob Barrett 21-13 with two ends to play, before the Ospreys scored a six. Barrett’s men took the last, too, but it was only a single and they fell 21-20.
Tomorrow at noon, York Knights complete their Yorkshire Over-55s League division two fixtures needing victory over North Cave Maroon to guarantee third place.
On Saturday at noon, York play Harrogate in the North Eastern Ladies’ League.
