ACOMB Hockey Club men's first team halted a run of four games without a win with a 5-1 home victory over Ramgarhia in Yorkshire League division two.

The Tangerines got off to a steady start and took a deserved lead through Tom Brown's neat reverse-stick strike.

Ramgarhia quickly equalised but Acomb stuck to their game plan and restored their lead with James Tindall's tidy finish.

Something clicked for the Tangerines with this goal, and they continued to create chances through good work down the flanks from Nick Linfoot and Owen Wilkie.

Matt Dickenson doubled Acomb's advantage with a penalty stroke after man-of-the-match James Graham-Brown's shot was blocked by a defender's foot.

The second period was an even affair, but the hosts embellished the scoreline towards the end. Dickenson finished off a penalty corner routine, flicking into the corner, before good play between Brown and Tindall saw the latter netted at the back post.

Acomb sit sixth and a positive result next up against Halifax II, one place above them, could secure safety in the division.

Acomb II remain unbeaten in six fixtures and second in division five north, after drawing 3-3 against Thirsk & Malton III for the second time this season.

Both teams started quickly but after 12 minutes the visitors took the lead from a two-on-one attack.

The sides continued to hold their own, although, but for a clearance from Acomb's reserve keeper Martin Grange, the visitors would have doubled their lead.

Instead, on half-time, Tom Whitfield's thunderous shot levelled the scores.

Thirsk regained the lead within three minutes of the restart, but were pegged back by Tom Brown's strike shortly after.

The hosts took the lead for the first time midway through the half, as a pass from Owen Willkie found Anthony Daley, whose shot found its way into the net.

However, with only minutes to go, Thirsk converted a penalty corner to equalise.
