ACOMB Hockey Club Ladies enjoyed mixed results in their Yorkshire League fixture double-header and now sit fourth in division one, two points off second.

They firstly lost at 3-1 at leaders Sheffield Hallam II before beating bottom side Huddersfield Dragons II 4-1 at home.

In Sheffield, the Tangerines went a goal to the good when a Kerry Woods pass found Hannah Yoward, who spun 180 degrees and swept the ball home.

Acomb held firm for 25 minutes, with keeper Sam Storr exceptional in goal, but the leaders managed to tap in an equaliser just before the break.

The Tangerines battled hard to keep in the game with Georgi Wood working tirelessly in midfield, but they fell behind when a right-wing cross was converted from close range.

The game was settled in the dying minutes as the hosts poured forward and won a penalty corner from which they netted a third.

Acomb started the game at Energise against Huddersfield well, with Yoward netting from a scrappy piece of play only five minutes in.

She then found Liz Harrison unmarked in the circle for another.

Seconds after the restart, Storr saved well to keep the visitors at bay and take the Tangerines into the break with a good advantage.

Huddersfield opened the second period playing some good hockey, but Acomb had the lion's share of chances, with Wendy Watson going close before a Woods strike found the net.

Vicki Wrigley made some good runs down the right flank as she linked up with Yoward and Wood before Huddersfield’s persistence was rewarded with a penalty corner and a goal.

The Tangerines looked a bit hesitant about losing another lead - having lost a three-goal lead at home to Pocklington last month - but they held their nerve with Rachel Roberton battling well in midfield.

Acomb sealed the game when skipper Woods' penalty corner strike was deflected into the roof of the net by a defender's stick.
