NEW Earswick Falcons picked up all 14 points in a fine 99-68 victory over Hornsea Hawks in Yorkshire Over-55s League division two.

Dave Sykes, Paul Murray, Dave Elcock and Tony Abbot scored a four at the first end and, although they dropped a four at the seventh, they picked up 13 shots over the next five to take a 20-8 lead.

The Hawks replied with nine unanswered shots over three ends but the Falcons hit back for a 30-20 win.

Dave Imeson, Bill Nuckey, Brian Birch and Barry Johnson won the first three ends to lead 7-0 and this start proved crucial as they won 27-20.

Rod Walker, Colin Ellis, Mick Head and Bill Waldie trailed 11-6 before scoring 10 shots over four ends to take the lead for the first time at 16-12. They finished 20-15 up.

Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Dick Osguthorpe and Ralph Tiplady led 12-4 after 12 ends and, although Hornsea picked up a four on the run-in, the Falcons replied with a five and a three for a 22-13 success.

Meanwhile, New Earswick hosted the Kent President's touring team.

The home clubs won two of the six morning matches, through Barry Johnson's rink (16-12) and Dick Osguthorpe's (21-18).

But Bill Waldie (18-17), Colin Pickup (18-12), Vic Thompson (28-11) and Eric Cookson (17-14) suffered defeats in an 111-91 defeat overall.

In the afternoon, the Yorkshire President's team beat the Kent tourists 159-148 over eight matches. Yorkshire won four and Kent three with one drawn.

Yorkshire's wins came from the Selby rink (23-15), the President's rink skipped by Ralph Hodgkinson (24-14), the Thornaby team (24-17) and York (20-14), while the Leeds rink drew (19-19).

Host club New Earswick (19-15) were among the Yorkshire teams to be defeated.
