YORK Indoor Bowls Club endured a disappointing few days in the Yorkshire League with only one of their three teams being victorious.

York 'A' had to split their fixture against Scarborough due to Yorkshire county call-ups and played the away leg.

Things began badly as the hosts raced 19-2 up after only five ends, and it got worse as the score ended 51-21, ahead of the home leg which will take place on March 10.

Graham Instone, Jack Woodworth, Mark Clarke and Dave Stroughair found themselves 18-1 down after nine ends and lost 30-9.

Graham Brooke, John Crowe, Neal Macdonald and Paul Mooring also got off to a bad start and trailed 12-1 after seven, but they stemmed the tide and only lost 21-12.

In division two, Harrogate proved too strong for York 'B' and beat them 93-54.

York's only consolation came from Harley Wenham, Ken Robinson, David White and Geoff Walker, who won the last four ends to turn an 18-13 deficit into a welcome 21-18 victory.

Bill Flavell, Alan Hampshire, Pete Bradley and Tex Stevens had been doing well as they held a 12-10 advantage after 12 ends but Harrogate won all but two of the rest to finish as 26-14 victors.

In Harrogate, Ken Simpson, Alan Smith, Dave Clarke and Mal Bulmer won five out of the last eight ends but the damage had already been done and they lost 21-11.

Ken Griffiths, Allen Clapham, Ray Calpin and Malcolm Thompson also had the best of the run-in as they won four of the last seven but they too had had a rough time early on and lost 28-8.

In division three, York 'C' were looking to get back to winning ways against Harrogate 'B' after losing to Leeds last time out.

The game was close early on before York took control between the 10th and 15th ends where they picked up 25 shots to Gate's 10 to lead 63-43. They kept the momentum going to finish as 90-61 victors, picking up 13 of the 14 points at stake.

At home, Andy Lockwood, Trevor Scott, Steve Lea and Ray Clark led 12-9 after 11 ends. They then trailed 17-14 with four to play but won them all to triumph 21-17.

Pete Waring, Barry Walker, Gordon Walker and Tony Bryan were 9-5 down before a run of eight out of nine ends gave them 16 shots to Harrogate's two. They held on to win 21-19.

In Harrogate, Dave Snarr, Noel Mallen, Jack Parsons and Jim Robertson put in an excellent performance and won 30-7, losing only four ends.

Wally Darbyshire, Mal Rankeillor, Dave Preece and Mike Snowden were 16-12 down with six to play but came away with an 18-18 draw.
